Frequently asked questions related to OfferUp
Why did OfferUp change my listing's category?
For some listings, OfferUp chooses the category itself based on keywords in your listing title.µ
When this happens, OfferUp replaces the category you selected in Crosslist with its own.
You can't change this category manually. The only way to influence it is through your title.
If OfferUp picks the wrong category, adjust your title so OfferUp can recognize the item:
- Start the title with what the item is, for example "Leather jacket" or "Coffee table".
- Use the common name buyers search for, not only a brand name or model number.
- Remove words that describe a different type of item.
- Save the new title and update your OfferUp listing.
When you update the listing, OfferUp checks the title again and assigns a new category. You don't need to delist and relist.
INFO
The category matters for more than search. It decides which buyers see your item and which free listing limit the listing counts toward. See Is it free to list on OfferUp?
Only change your title to describe the item more accurately. OfferUp doesn't allow posting items in the wrong category to avoid listing fees.
Is it free to list on OfferUp?
Yes, up to a limit. OfferUp gives you a set number of free listings each month. Once you reach the limit, each extra listing costs a fee.
Most categories share a combined limit of 200 free listings per month. Some categories have their own, lower limit:
| Category | Free listings per month |
|---|---|
| Appliances | 15 |
| Cell Phones & Accessories | 15 |
| Furniture | 25 |
| Jewelry & Accessories | 25 |
| Tools & Machinery | 25 |
| All other categories | 200 (combined) |
Listings in a category with its own limit don't count toward the 200.
For example, posting a sofa uses one of your 25 free Furniture listings and leaves your 200 untouched.
Some other things to know:
- Your free listings reset on the first day of every month.
- Unused free listings don't carry over to the next month.
- Listings you post to OfferUp through Crosslist count toward these limits, the same as listings you post in the OfferUp app.
- Listing fees are set and charged by OfferUp, not Crosslist. Your Crosslist plan doesn't include OfferUp listing fees.
What happens when I reach my OfferUp listing limit?
Crosslist stops posting the listing to OfferUp and shows a message that you've reached your free listing limit. The listing is not posted to OfferUp.
To post it, you can:
- Buy extra listings in the OfferUp app, then post the listing to OfferUp again from Crosslist.
- Wait until your free listings reset on the first of the month, then post it again.
Your other marketplaces aren't affected. Crosslist only stops the post to OfferUp.
Can I ship items I sell on OfferUp?
No. OfferUp only supports local pickup.
Since October 2025, shipping isn't available for any OfferUp listing, so all items you list to OfferUp through Crosslist are for local pickup only.
The buyer meets you in person to collect the item.
To make meetups safer, OfferUp suggests Community MeetUp Spots: public, well-lit places, often at police stations or local businesses.
You arrange the meetup with the buyer in the OfferUp app.
Do I need a shipping profile or package weight for OfferUp?
No. Because OfferUp is local pickup only.
You don't need to set up anything for OfferUp in your Crosslist shipping profiles, and you don't need to enter a weight, dimensions or shipping price.
Any shipping details you set for other marketplaces are not sent to OfferUp.
