Frequently asked questions related to eBay
Why do I have to set up business policies?
In order to use the eBay API, it's mandatory to set up business policies beforehand.
Setting up business policies does not mean you need to be a registered business. They are simply a structured way for eBay to handle your return, shipping, and payment preferences.
Business policies consist of three parts:
- Shipping
- Payments
- Returns
Please see our step-by-step guide for instructions on how to set these up.
I have already set up business policies and it’s still not working!
If you still encounter the business policies error after setting up all three business policies, the issue always comes down to one of two scenarios listed below.
1) The wrong eBay account is connected to Crosslist
You may have connected Crosslist to the wrong eBay account — one where your business policies are not set up.
To check this, go to marketplace connections in Crosslist and verify which eBay account is connected:
Then log in to eBay and hover over your name in the top left (displayed as “Hi, X”) to see your eBay ID:
If the ID does not match the one shown in Crosslist, you need to reconnect the correct account using this tutorial.
If the IDs do match, the next step is to check whether the eBay domain selected in Crosslist corresponds with the site where your business policies were created (for example, .com
, .co.uk
, .ca
, or .com.au
).
To check this, go to account settings in Crosslist and verify that the domain setting for eBay matches the domain you're setting up business policies for.
If the domains do not match, update the domain setting in Crosslist to the right domain, save your changes using the Save button, and try to post again.
If the domains do match, please check the second cause below.
2) Crosslist is using different policies than the ones you've set up
By default, Crosslist always applies the first policy in alphabetical order from eBay’s business policy page.
Problems arise when an outdated or incomplete “ghost” policy appears earlier alphabetically than the valid policy you intended to use, causing Crosslist to select the wrong one.
To resolve this, go to your business policies page in eBay. Use the appropriate link for your eBay region:
Then, make sure your business policies are listed alphabetically by clicking Name and confirming that your policies are ordered descending (↓).
Check that all three of your correctly set up policies (return, shipping, and payment) appear at the top of the list.
If other policies appear before them, delete those policies.
When a policy is still linked to existing listings, relink those listings to the correct policies before deleting.
As an alternative, you can also rename your valid policies by adding an "a" in front of their names, which ensures they always appear first in the list.
Once your three correct business policies are at the top, return to Crosslist and try posting again.
Why are my pictures too small?
eBay requires that pictures are at least 500px on the shortest side.
Crosslist does not enforce this requirement, as other marketplaces do not always require the same.
Unfortunately, if your images are smaller than 500px, you’ll need to upload new, larger images before you can list to eBay.
Why is my listing still online after delisting?
Delisting from eBay is not always possible. Crosslist will display a warning if we cannot delist for any of the following reasons:
- The listing is an active auction.
- The auction already has bids.
- The listing has active offers.
In these cases, the listing must remain active on eBay until the auction or offers are resolved.
